Therapeutic Living

Trauma-informed daily care, that recognizes past experiences shape present behavior.

We provide a consistent, empathetic, and safe environment where complex emotional and behavioural needs can be understood and addressed.

Our service moves beyond traditional residential care by integrating therapeutic principles into every aspect of the young person’s life, from morning routines to meal times and educational support. Our aim is to foster emotional regulation, build secure attachments, and help young people heal from past trauma in a stable, nurturing, and non-judgmental home setting.

Who Might Need Therapeutic Living?

A young person is typically referred to our Therapeutic Living service when they display behaviours or emotional patterns that suggest they have experienced significant trauma and require a high level of specialist support that standard care settings may struggle to provide.

Signs or behaviours that indicate a young person could benefit from this service include:

  • Difficulty Forming or Maintaining Relationships: Struggling to trust adults or peers, displaying overly clingy or avoidant behaviour, or having chaotic social interactions.
  • Intense Emotional Dysregulation: Frequent, rapid, and severe mood swings; outbursts of anger or aggression that are disproportionate to the event; or episodes of extreme withdrawal and isolation.
  • Persistent Feelings of Anxiety or Fear: Exhibiting hypervigilance (always “on edge”) or showing severe anxiety around transitions, new people, or specific triggers.

Consistency and Empathy

A deeply supportive environment for a young person exhibiting Emotional and Relational Challenges.

The core of our model is consistency and empathy, delivered by a highly trained staff team. We recognize that all behaviour is a form of communication, and we work to decipher the underlying needs and trauma responses rather than simply managing the behaviour itself.

Additional behavioral indicators that a young person may require professional support

  • Self-Harming Behaviours: Engaging in actions that cause physical harm to themselves as a coping mechanism for emotional pain.
  • Risky or Impulsive Behaviour: Making poor decisions without considering consequences, such as running away, substance misuse, or engagement with criminal activity, often driven by an inability to regulate intense emotions
